Dave got the boat from Roger Newton as a bare fiberglass hull. He made modifications to the sponsons to enhance performance and finished the boat.  The boat was a consistent performer in 2004 and even survived a full speed collision with the row boat. She'll be back in 2005.

Info about the real boat: The boat was owned and driven by Chuck Thompson of Detroit.  She was formerly named Tempo VII and was later campaigned as Miss Detroit, Miss D.C. and St. Regis.
